Peanut Butter & Molasses Dog Cookies (Gluten-Free)

I have two senior dogs one of which has issues with allergies and the other has lost most of her teeth. So I need treats that are gluten-free and that are not too hard to chew. So I was excited to see this recipe from doggydesertchef.com as it meets both requirements.

I was actually surprised to learn that molasses are often given to dogs who suffer with arthritis. According to earthclinic.com, molasses, particularly blackstrap molasses, has been used as a natural cure for many ailments in both dogs and humans. Molasses is full of minerals and a few nutrients which seem to have been proven effective treating even acute and chronic ailments. They state that the general alternative health community have used molasses in the treatment of arthritis in dogs and some have used it for a remedy for bereavement and even for tumors. I'm pretty sure the molasses I used today are not blackstrap, but I am hoping it will still have some of the healing qualities.

So let's make some doggies happy! Lets make them some healthy treats for being so wonderful. ♥

First, we need to gather the ingredients, a large bowl, 2 baking sheets, parchment paper, and some measuring tools. You may also want to use some cute cookie cutters if you have them.

Just mix all the ingredients in a large bowl and form into a big ball. Note here...I had to add more molasses as mine just wouldn't hold together. If you have this problem just add a tablespoon or two at a time until you can get it all to stick together.

Roll the ball out until it is about 1/4" thick and either cut with your cookie cutter or just cut into squares. Place on parchment paper lined baking sheets.

Bake at 350 for 10-15 minutes and remove to cool.

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup Creamy Peanut Butter
  • 1/4 cup Molasses
  • 1 teaspoon Cinnamon
  • 2 cups White Rice Flour

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees and line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat.
  2. In a large bowl add all ingredients and mix well
  3. Knead dough into a ball and roll onto a heavily floured surface till about 1/4 inch thick. Cut with a cookie cutter or into squares
  4. Place on prepared cookie sheet and bake for 10 to 15 minutes. Cool and refrigerate.

I ended up with 25 cookies.

Hope you and your babies enjoy these these. As always, I welcome your comments or questions.
